May is a month that stirs up so many emotions. It’s beautiful, yet so complicated. We each have our own reasons for celebrating and for mourning. For some, this is a time of joy and celebration – a time to honor the mothers who have given us life and to thank those who have been like mothers to us. But for others, the wounds are still fresh and the memories are painful. We remember the ones we’ve lost and the ones we never had.
As a mother myself, I feel incredibly blessed. But I am also keenly aware of those who have not had the same opportunities. My heart goes out to all those who are missing their moms this May. I know that ache all too well, and I want you to know that you’re not alone.
As a Chinese-born immigrant who has now become an American citizen, my heart is heavy for all those who have lost children – whether through life’s hardships or through their service to our country. And as I watch my own daughter serve in the Army Reserve, I am overcome with gratitude for every moment that we have together.
Now more than ever, it’s important for us to come together as a community. That’s why I’m offering to give you a personalized Chinese name – a way to honor your own heritage and history.
May is a time to reflect, honor, and give back. I am proud to be a part of this great community and country, and I am grateful for each and every one of you.
